Care N’ Care Announces Major Cost-Savings on Prescription Medications for Members of its PPO and HMO Plans in 2018

Medicare Advantage Plan Proactively Addresses Concern Throughout North Texas of  Cost of Prescriptions, Particularly for Seniors

(FORT WORTH, Texas – November 21, 2017) — Care N’ Care Health Plan announced today that members of its PPO and HMO Medicare Advantage plans in 2018 will be able to avail themselves of a 33 percent savings on most prescription medications by getting a three-month supply for the price of two. The benefit will be available at participating retail pharmacies or by utilizing Care N’ Care’s convenient mail order pharmacy.

The cost of prescription medications, particularly for seniors, is an area of increasing concern in America. In a 2016 survey of more than 1,800 adults over the age of 50 conducted by AARP, 75 percent reported taking a prescription medication on a regular basis, with an even higher percentage for those ages 65 and older. Of these, over 80 percent take at least two prescription drugs; and over 50 percent take four or more. About one-quarter (23 percent) of those surveyed did not fill a prescription they were given within the last two years, and over 55 percent of those reported that cost contributed to the decision not to obtain the medication.

“Our goal is to minimize cost as a barrier toward members getting the maintenance medications they need,” said Shane Greene, Pharm.D., director of clinical pharmacy services at Care N’ Care. “That is why we are so happy to once again in 2018 offer this incredible cost-savings benefit, which members have responded to very positively over the past year.”

Care N’ Care offers a choice of four PPO plans for Medicare beneficiaries in Tarrant, Johnson, Dallas, Collin, Denton, Rockwall and parts of Parker counties. It also offers an HMO plan in Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties.
