Care N’ Care Insurance Company has an update for our providers regarding the recent cyber security incident impacting Change Healthcare, a clearinghouse utilized by our claims administrator.
Following notification of the incident on Wednesday, 2/21, all data transfers both from and to Change Healthcare were halted, impacting the receipt of new electronic claims.
Care N’ Care has worked with our claims administrator to stand up a second clearinghouse, Availity, and we are now actively receiving electronic claims through them.
If providers already utilize Availity as their clearinghouse, any claims that Availity has held rather than forwarding to Change Healthcare have already been sent to our claims administrator.
We are also receiving new claims from other clearinghouses as they route to Availity in lieu of Change Healthcare.
If providers utilize Change Healthcare as their clearinghouse, we have not received their claims as data transfers from Change Healthcare are still on hold, and we have received no updates from them as to when we can expect to receive claims once more.
We encourage providers to sign up with Availity and resubmit any outstanding claims through them to ensure expedited receipt.
Availity has created the Availity Essentials product to help providers get started (see link below).

Care N’ Care also strongly encourages providers to enroll with Availity for electronic funds transfers as we will be moving our electronic claims payments to Availity in the near future, and any providers who are not enrolled with Availity will receive paper checks as payment for claims.
Care N’ Care intends to maintain both clearinghouses for receipt of electronic claims going forward to increase the resiliency of our claims processing.
Our focus remains on continuing to service our members and providers as we seek to minimize any disruptions.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
