Care N’ Care Encourages Seniors to Participate in Community Activities During Older Americans Month

(FORT WORTH, Texas – May 13, 2019) — During Older Americans Month in May, Care N’ Care (HMO/PPO) Health Plan is encouraging seniors in North Texas to take advantage of the many resources and activities available in their communities.

“Keeping active and engaged are important elements of healthy aging, but sometimes people just don’t know where or when to begin,” said Kelli Blackwelder, community engagement manager at Care N’ Care. “Older Americans Month is a great time to try something new; to get out into the community and meet new people; make connections; and do something good for your mind, body and spirit.”

Presently 10,000 baby boomers nationwide, including many in North Texas, are turning 65 every day, and it is expected to remain that way until 2029. For many of these seniors, isolation and loneliness are serious concerns that can directly affect their health.

Through its Care N’ Community program, Care N’ Care teams up with local organizations to offer programs and activities that increase independence, reduce isolation and encourage healthy living. A variety of activities have been planned by Care N’ Care during Older Americans Month, including:

“These programs are fun, easy ways to take charge of your health and wellness,” added Blackwelder. “And they are a great way to not only honor yourself during Older Americans Month but for all of us to say thank you for all you do to make our communities a better place to live.”

First signed into law in 1976 by President Gerald Ford, Older Americans Month is observed every May to recognize the contributions of older adults across the nation. This year’s theme of “Connect, Create, Contribute” encourages older adults to connect with friends; engage in activities that promote personal enrichment; and contribute time, talent and life experiences to benefit others.
